The fuel/drive needed to tackle challenges again and again, to keep at things, to develop a creative breakthrough, has been described by Seth Godin.
Based on the research of Nobel Prize winner Richard Feynman, he has created a list of energising, accompanying mottos that could help us to do the work that others might run away from.
Here are a few suggestions:
- I want to become a better version of myself
- I want to live big dreams (because you can already see, taste or feel it)
- I want to prevent disasters (or the end of the world as we know it)
- I want to enter the competition (because someone else is gaining ground on me)
- I want to meet deadlines (the boss/contract says I have to, or better yet there is a deadline)
- I want to make connections (someone else will join in)
- I feel the creative itch (the voice inside wants to be heard)
- I feel dissatisfaction (because the way it is isn’t good enough)
- I feel the engineer in me (because there’s a problem outside that needs solving)
- I want to be known (I imagine life on the other side will be better)
- I want to be generous (because it’s a way to make a contribution)
- I need the money (pay the author)
- I feel the pressure (the meeting is coming up soon)
- I want to take advantage of the opportunities (because we can and it will be exciting to see how the universe reacts)
- I want professionalism (because that’s what we’re good at)
- I want revenge (you show the naysayers)
- I want to be chosen (to get in, win the top prize, be chosen)
- I notice dissatisfaction (because the spark of happiness arises again after the next success)
All mottos are sure to work. Some are really exhausting, others create a climate full of possibilities, joy and connections with other people.
What is your motto?
